Can literature lead to more than just making you nicer?
I believe literature provides a good medium for exploring the topic Success: What Does It Look Like? In the YouTube video What is Literature For? they explain how literature can make you nicer. This is a very important factor that can lead to success. How nice you are corresponds strongly with your people skills and ability to communicate with others. Communication and making good connections are such an important part of success. This skill of networking can be used so many ways to succeed, including finding job opportunities. Being nice can lead you to many forms of what can be viewed as success. It can lead to successful connections as a previously mentioned, but being nice to people can also lead to self fulfilment and joy.
As much as I believe being nicer can lead to success, there is another specific part of this topic that I felt had the strongest connection with success. The narrator states “It allows us to consider the consequences of our actions on others in a way we otherwise wouldn’t.” Yes, this quote relates to mistakes made that will aid in making you nicer, but I believe it can be interpreted in many ways. One example is that it can be viewed as, not necessarily only your actions towards others, yet just your actions in general. Literature can teach us many life lessons through stories of characters trying things and making mistakes. It can lead to success as we can view the consequences of certain actions without having to make the mistake ourselves.
So yes, literature can help improve our human interaction skills and make us nicer, but I believe it can also do so much more than that. It can be a great resource for improving many other life skills and to help us make smarter decisions, therefore putting the reader on a path towards success.
