Success is a personal Journey "Digging"

What I got from this poem was that success can be what you make it. The poem shouts that what you've accomplished on your own can be a form of success. I think the word "Digging" could be a similarity to people digging to success in their own way using their gifts or different potentials. It could also mean that success doesn't have to exactly be following an agenda or family roots. It could be actually getting something accomplished in one's self. Like living up to something you've had your mind set on. It could also mean that embracing or accepting one's self and living up to your unique potential could be an important form of success. The author makes these messages indicating that success is a personal path that you must be willing to take, encouraging others to honor your gifts. The quote "Between my finger and my thumb/The squat pen; rest snug as a gun" I feel like what the writer makes comparisons between a gun and a pen in a way by saying literature is powerful when it comes to success. Also, it could be a way of comparing physical ways to creatively mindful ways, meaning success doesn't always come from labor but could come from personal expectations. I can say this resonates with my choice in major my parents wanted me to be financially stable coming out of college so they wanted me to choose a complex major more so than a major of my interest. But the success doesn't have to come in money success could just be me making it out of college with a degree. Success could be me working a job I really wanted and excelling in it. But all in all success is something you accomplish through your personal fulfillment.
