Success? What is it? Is it the same for all of us?

There are various interpretations of success. For many people, success can be materialistic, like for example a bag full of money but, for others, success can be having a fulfilling life which can be having emotions like being happy or content with family. A few words that pop into my head when I think about the word success would be achievements, hard work, fulfillment, career, determination, and freedom.

After watching the YouTube video titled “What is Literature For?”, a usage of literature that provides a good medium for exploring the topic of success is that literature can give you access to a range of emotions you might not be able to experience in years. This can result in emotional maturity at an early age that can equip you with skills needed for personal or social success. My experience with reading the book called Shooting Kabul in middle school was life-changing. It was so impacting and the heartbreak feelings I experienced while reading were sad, but it truly developed my emotions.

Going back to the word success, my idea of success was always materialistic being a high schooler, especially being influenced by pop culture, but now that I am a college student my idea of success is completely different. Being happy and fulfilled with life is my new idea of success, and to achieve this idea I would like to be successful in my career. In conclusion, there are many interpretations and types of successes, and it is up to us to choose our path to success with the usage of literature as it provides various benefits.
