Freire Is Right...
As a student, I do believe what Paulo is saying to be true in many aspects. Freire's idea of teacher-student and student-teacher dynamic kind of calls back to experiences us student's go through today. It goes hand and hand with collaborative learning environments. I have classes where my professors hold group class discussions where we take leading rolls in teaching other different perspectives on our reading. The role of leadership as the professor and the student must be transcended to contribute to learning.
One of Freire's quotes that stuck with me was, "Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students." This quote highlights the potential of education to empower both the educators and the learners, showing us a mutual exchange of knowledge, respect, and understanding. My own education journey has aligned with Freire's vision, where learning surpasses the banking model to become a collaborative, encouraging process of mutual growth.
I feel that this is a good way for education these days to grow in both roles. I think a valid relationship with both roles could build a student's trust. Professors I've run into professors who have come up with collaborative roles where the teacher could learn the student's perspective and the professor would learn something. Professors shouldn't necessarily dictate a specific idea trying to be learned instead, it should be guided and facilitated.
